The 2004 - 2005 school year will be the first school year where students will have access to computers running Linux. There are 10 Dell's on the second floor dual-booting Windows XP and Slackware Linux 10.0.

Your CAL username will not work under Linux, therefore, talk to Scott Brown about a Linux username. Thanks to NIS and NFS, you will have roaming profiles with Linux, just like you have with your Windows account.

Two of the CAL servers run Red Hat 9.0. One of them is devoted to running our website, the other runs the Linux NIS/NFS server and our disk imaging software.

The disk imaging software is really nice. Not only is it open source, but, it saves a lot of time. Should anything go wrong with any of the computers, we pop in the rescue CD and 10 to 15 minutes later the computer is operational again.
