Capstone Process
STEP 1: CAPSTONE BRAINSTORMING
March 29-April 9, 2010

1. Look to your community to identify a need or problem.
2. Understand the Capstone Review requirements for your capstone idea. Verify the specific requirements for your program area.
3. Talk with community members who have a specific need or problem.
4. Brainstorm needs/problems with your instructors, peers, family, community members, local businesses, etc.
5. Identify the problem/need that you want to focus on for your capstone and what actions you can take to solve that problem or meet that need.
6. Identify the business partner or specific intended audience that you want to work with for your capstone.
7. Identify potential team members who can help you.
STEP 2: CAPSTONE MEMO
1. In English class, learn how to write a memo.
2. Take what you’ve learned and apply it to your capstone idea.
3. Write your Capstone Memo.
4. Turn in two copies of your Capstone Memo to your English teacher.
DUE: Monday 4/12 (A); Tuesday 4/13 (B)

5. Receive feedback from your English Instructor and Program Area by 4/20 (A); 4/21 (B). Discuss comments.
6. Make any needed revisions to your idea and Capstone Memo.
7. Resubmit it to your Program Area mailbox in the office. Check off your name.

All students should have an approved capstone idea and memo by Thursday 4/29.
STEP 3: CAPSTONE PROPOSAL ESSAY
1. In English class, learn how to write a Proposal Essay.
3. Take what you’ve learned and apply it to your capstone idea.
4. Write your Capstone Proposal Essay according to the requirements in your English class.
5. Turn in one copy of your Capstone Proposal Essay to your English teacher.

6. Receive feedback from your English teacher. Discuss comments.
STEP 4: CAPSTONE ABSTRACT
1. Reread the Capstone Review requirements for your program area.
2. Use the information in your Capstone Proposal Essay to write your Capstone Abstract.
3. Submit your Capstone Abstract and graded Capstone Proposal Essay to your Adviser.

STEP 5: CAPSTONE SUMMER DELIVERABLES
1. Complete the Capstone Addendums: Research, Budget, Timeline, Resources, Job Roles, etc.
2. Get the phone and email numbers of your team members.
3. Meet with your team on a regular basis.
4. Plan your capstone details.
5. Complete any additional addendums for your program area.
6. Do any capstone work over the summer that you can. Get a jump start!
